Where does frankincense resin come from?

Frankincense has been part of the story of mankind for thousands of years.  It is a rich resin which oozes out of the frankincense tree found in Oman (Boswellia Sacra) and has been used by cultures all over the world for aromatherapy as well as medicinal purposes. There are around 24 species of frankincense resin which come from around the world but it is generally agreed that Omani frankincense is the best resin as far as health and therapeutic benefits are concerned. The resin oozes out of the frankincense tree when it is ‘tapped’ by experienced frankincense farmers. It comes out as an oleo-gum resin which is then left to harden on the bark of the tree. A few weeks after the initial ‘tap’, this resin is fully solidified and then harvested as ‘tears’ of frankincense resin.

What does frankincense resin smell like?

Frankincense has a fresh, citrusy aroma, with some woody and spicy notes. When burnt, frankincense resin releases a light but invigorating aroma purifying and detoxifying the air due to its inherent antibacterial properties. It is not a heavy or cloying scent, instead it will remind you of clean, crisp summer days. Depending on the type and age profile resin you burn, some frankincense resin may feature woodier or sweeter notes than others. The most crystal clear and citrusy piercing scent can be found when burning the best quality Hojari or white resin.

Does frankincense smell like bukhoor?

Frankincense is a natural resin whereas bukhoor is a mixture of man-made substances, often containing many chemicals. Therefore, frankincense is simply much healthier and cleaner to burn than bukhoor. It’s scent profile is the opposite of bukhoor. Where burning bukhoor or oud chips produces heavy and sometimes overly cloying atmospheres (usually with lots of smoke in the mix) within your home, frankincense is light, clear, purifying and citrusy-honey sweet. When burnt using the Faseel Burner, there is zero smoke and nothing but the pure scent of frankincense.

Our soy wax is fully organic and even our wicks are a blend of cotton and linen, sealed with soy wax and containing recycled aluminium rather than lead.

Why should I buy Omani frankincense?

There are 24 recorded species of frankincense but frankincense from Oman, also known as Boswellia Sacra, is clearly head and shoulders above the rest due to it having the greatest therapeutic potential for humans. Omani frankincense has over 100 compounds present in the resin which are likely to be suitable for medical purposes. Omani frankincense has superior anti-inflammatory and anti-depressant properties and has long been known to quell and reduce anxiety as part of a calming wellbeing ritual. Whilst other species do also have their unique and beneficial scent and healing properties, research is continuing to show that Boswellia Sacra from Oman is the star of the show.

What is the best way to store Frankincense Resin?

The best way to store frankincense resin is in an airtight container, in a cool, dark place. This helps to preserve its aroma and potency over time. Avoiding direct sunlight and heat is also important to prevent the resin from degrading.

You can use glass or ceramic jars, or even plastic bags if they are tightly sealed and not all mixed together in a box.

Faseel Gold Brass Jar: Our Faseel gold brass jar is perfect for storage as it helps to prevent the resin from being exposed to air and sunlight, which can cause it to lose its fragrance and potency. It will help it from drying out or becoming brittle, which can also impact its quality.

You can buy this once and buy our pouch refills to top up. Faseel Gold Brass Jar
